UMAT Eligibility
Who can apply for the UMAT?
Any student residing anywhere across the globe is eligible to apply for the UMAT provided he/she has completed or is about to complete their higher secondary-level education (‘year 12’ in Australia & ‘year 13’ in New Zealand).
Some exceptions to the above case:
- Students currently studying in the 11th year of school or lower cannot register for the UMAT.
- Some universities exempt international students from sitting for the UMAT. In such a case, international students may be required to sit for a different test. For further details, log onto the websites of the individual Universities.
- Students enrolled in a medical program and registered medical practitioners (for instance, general physicians, dentists, neurologists) who want to sit for UMAT, have to seek prior written permission from the UMAT office before registering for the test. Failure to do so will result in your registration being cancelled.
The validity period of a UMAT score
A UMAT score is valid for 2 years. Within these two years, a student may apply to any of the universities listed under the UMAT Consortium. If you have two valid UMAT scores (say you attempted the UMAT twice), you may use the better score to apply to the Universities.
Note: You can sit for the UMAT more than once.
I am from a non-science stream. Can I apply?
Yes, you can. UMAT does not test curriculum knowledge but skills considered necessary for the medical profession (analytical skills, interpersonal skills, etc.). ACER does not give any preferential treatment to students from a science background during the UMAT test.
How do I register for the UMAT?
Registration is online only. You will need:
- A computer with internet access
- A credit card (AMEX, Diners Club, MasterCard or VISA)
- An email id (except Hotmail or Yahoo). Your email id is your link with the UMAT office.
To register for the UMAT, log on to the official UMAT website http://umat.acer.edu.au.
