Finding Your GAMSAT WEAKNESSES
Potential med students are always trying to find specific GAMSAT help as the test is such a mixture of different types of knowledge. While those whose previous degree is in the humanities might relish Section 1 and the essay writing of Section 2, they certainly approach the hard science of Section 3 with much less eagerness. And the opposite can be said of science students whose essay writing and lack of lateral thinking skills might make them see the first two sections as not very attractive propositions. But how do you really gauge where your weaknesses lie?
GAMSAT preparation is no piece of cake, especially if you’re going to take on the next sitting of the test in March. Unless you have the luxury of having many months solely for prep, then you’re going to need to focus your time and talent. By knowing what areas you are weak in you’ll be better able to plan your study program, and try to balance out those kinks in your knowledge.
A different perspective
Remember that you can either choose the lonely route of self preparation, or you can join a study group or even find a tutor. By enlisting the aid of others in your study you’re able to get a different perspective on your strengths and weaknesses and find out what needs to be improved.
You’re definitely taking your future medical career seriously at this stage so you’re probably smashing out loads of test papers every week. But are you doing it intelligently? Approach the practice test with an open mind, irrespective of your previous education you might be surprised , even horrified to find that you’re not as ready as you think you are. If you are repeatedly struggling with certain sections you’ll probably notice it. But if you’re not keeping a study diary and actually analysing your results, you might not really notice what could be a very big gap in your knowledge.
So next time that you do a practice test, take the time to really determine what you’re weak at, it could save you a lot of time in the long run.
